Frequently Asked Questions

My oven fan keeps running and has done for about 30 Minutes. Why is this?

This may be your oven’s cooling fan and can run up to an hour. If you have been cooking at 300 degrees, it may run for even longer.

Why do the ovens feature an easy clean enamel interior instead of catalytic liners?

ILVE’s easy clean enamel interiors make it easier to maintain long term in comparison to catalytic liners. Catalytic liners need reversing and eventually replacing over time. The surface is designed to be more easily maintained than a standard enamelling finish (which pre-2019 models included).

How do I prevent steam from building up?

There are things that can be done during cooking to try and alleviate some of the steam build-up:

1.Make sure the ovens are up to temperature before placing any food in the oven.

  1. Use a tight fitting lid or wrap food well in foil to seal in moisture.
  2. Open the door during cooking to let steam escape – especially if cooking for long periods / cooking particularly wet food
  3. Be vigilant with letting the steam out on colder days, as if the cooker is cold, it may cause more condensation to build up.
  4. Use the extractor fan even when just using the oven, as this will take the steam away when the oven door is opened.

*Note:  As a precaution, always open the door in two stages. First, partially open the door by 10cm for a few seconds to allow the steam to escape and then open the door fully. Keep your face and head away from the door when opening.

Why is condensation forming in the oven?

  1. A common occurrence in A rated ovens which are particularly well-sealed. Have you pre—heated the oven? Condensation is less likely to form when the oven or grill is pre-heated before use.
  2. Has the food been frozen? Thawed food always contains more water than fresh food.
  3. When cooking for a long time especially on temperatures below 180⁰C. There can be a small leak of water.
  4. Using the right hand , fan oven will produce less condensation than the static right oven
  5. Keep a lid on wet food during cooking
  6. Open the door periodically during cooking to allow steam to escape

Why has my door seal split?

  1. Are you leaving the grill pan or foil at the bottom of the oven? This may cause the seal to overheat and become brittle.
  2. Have you used caustic oven cleaners on or near the door seal?
  3. Always remove the grill pan when not in use as it can restrict airflow around the oven.

How can I clean the pan support and fry top?

  1. Best way is to put the pan supports in the dishwasher- always ensure that the supports are cold before cleaning
  2. As the Fry Top is heavy we recommend that you clean it on the hob without moving it.  After cooking, allow the Fry Top to cool until just warm. Use the spatula provided to remove any cooking residue.
  3. Wipe away any fat in the drip tray with kitchen towel.  Clean the whole surface with warm water and washing-up liquid, using a stainless steel scourer. Always work with the grain of the stainless steel.  Some foods with a high salt content (such as bacon) may leave white marks.

Why is my oven smoking?

Why is my oven smoking?

Make sure you have considered the following:

  • Have you selected the right cooking temperature?
  • Are you cooking high fat content foods?
  • Do you rarely use the grill? There may be residue left from a previous cooking session.
  • Does the oven interior and/or stay clean liners need to be cleaned?

Our recommendations:

  1. Remember to reduce the oven temperature by 20°C if using a fan function with a recipe designed for conventional cooking.
  2. Use high sided dishes to contain fats and splashes. Clean the oven interior if necessary.
  3. Remember to remove and clean the grill pan after use.
  4. Leave the grill on for a few minutes after grilling or roasting to burn off fatty deposits from the oven roof.
  5. If you have been cooking food at low temperatures, the stay clean liners may TAR. Turn the oven up to 200 ⁰C for one hour to clear this.
  6. Oven surfaces should be cleaned regularly to prevent build-up of cooking residues.
